well

After all the excitement lat night I didn’t get all my math homework done, but it turned out to be a moot point as Firefly’s darts got canceled due to the weather. I don’t know about the homework yet, but I got full credit on my quiz for this week which is awesome. So far I’ve gotten 10 extra credit points, and have missed one point on each of two quizzes. I’ve got an exam that I have to take by Saturday at the close of the testing center, so hopefully I can keep it up! It’s actually pretty interesting stuff so far, dealing mostly with different voting methods and the mathematics of apportionment.

I did not go in to work this morning. I called my boss, who told me not to worry about it since the roads were so bad. I was glad to be home when Firefly got here to see that she made it safely and for some sleeping in. Firefly’s work is closed because of the weather so we actually get a night together, which is a bit odd since the roads are pretty much cleared off now and it was so much worse last night and this morning. I must admit I’m really looking forward to it though, even if it means she won’t be getting paid. It’s been getting so cold at night and I’m happy to have her here to snuggle with. And now I’m going to spend some time with her.

what a day.

Well, this has turned out to be a very eventful day. Let me preface everything by saying that everyone is okay. (Don’t you hate it when people say that? But really, we are.)

We’ve got a big storm that moved in just in time for me to head home from work. The drive home wasn’t quite as bad as I expected, but it wasn’t good. When I got home, Firefly wanted to go back out to go to the hardware store to pick up the backer board for the bathroom floor. I reluctantly agreed after a bit of pouting, and once we loaded up the vehicle at the store we went through a drive through for dinner, because frankly neither one of us wanted to cook. We watched the hockey game on TV (we won), and Firefly headed off to work 45 minutes earlier than usual–which is probably good because it took her about 50 minutes to get there.

I worked on math homework for a while, then sat down to write my post for the day when my phone rang. It was Badger calling to tell me that Bean had wrecked Badger’s truck driving to work. She got cut off on the highway, and then the person who cut her off put on their brakes. She braked to try to avoid them and instead ended up sliding all the way across the highway and into the concrete median. Of course the person didn’t even stop. She’s shaken and sore, but otherwise alright. I had to go out to pick her up from the place they towed her and didn’t get above 35mph even on the highway, and even then I was sliding a bit. My window iced up from the freezing rain before I even made it off of our street, and it didn’t look like they plowed at all although I know they did. I kept seeing all these tire tracks off the side of the road, and saw a flare glowing in the snow. What would have normally taken me half an hour tops there and back ended up taking over an hour. But I’m home now and safe, and I dropped Bean and Badger off on their doorstep, also safe and sound. I’m sure Bean is taking a nice, long hot bath now.

I really hate weather like this. I get so worried about Firefly’s commute, especially since so much of it is outside of the city, and to the north, which tends to get a little harder hit. I just want it to be morning and her to be home. I’m not driving if it’s still this bad in the morning. I’ve got leave time, and it’s just not worth the stress.
