and here it is…

Obviously I never got a chance to update again last night. Sorry about that. So here’s how it went, from my perspective…

The doc came in once Firefly was ready and asked her some questions about how she was feeling. The normal stuff: if she was tender, tired, or tummy trouble. He was happy with the responses (yes, yes, not really so far–although that last one seems like it might be changing), joked around a bit about finding out what the cause was while he got ready, and then we got to see it.

You wanna see? I scanned the little printouts we got so the pictures aren’t the best, but here you go:

Tada! Just one. Just hangin’ out. Yup.

Then we got a closer look. Do you want to see that, too? I don’t know why I’m even asking, because I’m going to show you whether you want to or not:

That balloon-looking thing with the string on the right? That’s the yo.lk sac and the umb.ilical cord. Baby’s head is next to the sac, and the little baby butt is to the left. Or so the doc says. We could see the little heart fluttering away (and oh, I thought mine might burst!) so I’m sure of where that was. I’ll just have to take his word for it on the rest. The doc switched the settings so that we could see the heart beating in color, a bright red and blue throbbing pulse. So neat!

He turned on this thing so we could see the heart beating away across the bottom of the screen, like so:

And then? Then he turned on the sound. I cried. I did. Gah, I’m going to do it again! It was so amazing. Just…I can’t even explain it. Firefly said I even made the doc get all giddy with me. Just look at that amazing, precious thing happening inside my wife. How could I not be moved?

We headed out with a handful of pictures and a promise to send a much bigger one back come November. I don’t think I stopped smiling all night. Or today.
