stupid tests.

Dinner was really good last night, and we had a great time at the game even though the guys sitting in front of us were idiots. At one point they said that if their friend didn’t come back by the end of the fourth period they were going to leave him there. One of them also told Firefly on his way to get a beer that if we scored three goals she should throw some hat that he had that was apparently “queer anyway.” Firefly said it couldn’t have been that queer, because she’d never be caught dead in it–and she’s got a lot of hats. Not to mention that three goals is not, in and of itself, a hat trick. After it was over we went to Bennder and girlfriend-who-does-not-have-a-nickname-yet’s house and hung out for a bit, then headed home for some cards. We were up pretty late, but we had fun.

This afternoon I went to try and take my math exam. I stood in line for almost an hour before they came out and told everyone waiting that they weren’t going to be able to get everyone in, and if they did we’d only have until closing to finish our exams. It was going to be at least another half hour just to get seated and that would have left me with about half an hour to take mine if I was lucky, which just isn’t enough time for a math exam. They gave me a form saying I was there and was turned away that they’ll send to my professor, but I’m really glad now that he extended the deadline to Tuesday night. I’ll have to go on Monday after work and hope it’s not nearly as crazy as today.

Firefly was supposed to go yesterday to get her proge.sterone level checked but didn’t, which I just realized. Of course the diagnostics lab is closed today and I’m not sure if there’s anywhere else we can go to have it done, and she’s already a day late. Frustrating.

fun at the dentist.

I went to the dentist after work today today for what was supposed to be a routine cleaning. Unfortunately while the hygienist was cleaning my teeth an old filling broke loose. It didn’t come completely out and I wasn’t in any pain, but it was definitely putting pressure on the tooth in front of it because of where it was. The dentist came in to look at it and decided he needed to fix it then rather than rescheduling. I suppose if you’re going to have that happen, there’s no better place than the dentist’s chair–as opposed to, say, out to dinner at 11 on a Friday night.

So the appointment that should have taken half an hour ended up taking more like an hour at least, and I ended up getting home later than I had anticipated and with half of my face numb. Firefly didn’t really feel like cooking what we had planned because she’d been working in the bathroom all day, and I didn’t either, so instead we made a frozen pizza. After we ate I proceeded to fall asleep on the couch while Firefly read the paper and watched some television. It was a shame, too, because I was really interested in the show that was on–although I can’t remember now what it was. Oh well.

I’m still pretty tired and my math exam got postponed because of the weather, which gives me a bit more time to study, so I think I’m actually going to make it to bed before midnight tonight. Crazy! I’m trying to decide if I’m still going to try to take the exam on Saturday or wait until after work on Monday. I’d like to go Saturday, but we’ve got plans for tomorrow night with Dee and Pia and if I wait it gives me the weekend to study. Oh, and I got full points on my homework. Woot!

well

After all the excitement lat night I didn’t get all my math homework done, but it turned out to be a moot point as Firefly’s darts got canceled due to the weather. I don’t know about the homework yet, but I got full credit on my quiz for this week which is awesome. So far I’ve gotten 10 extra credit points, and have missed one point on each of two quizzes. I’ve got an exam that I have to take by Saturday at the close of the testing center, so hopefully I can keep it up! It’s actually pretty interesting stuff so far, dealing mostly with different voting methods and the mathematics of apportionment.

I did not go in to work this morning. I called my boss, who told me not to worry about it since the roads were so bad. I was glad to be home when Firefly got here to see that she made it safely and for some sleeping in. Firefly’s work is closed because of the weather so we actually get a night together, which is a bit odd since the roads are pretty much cleared off now and it was so much worse last night and this morning. I must admit I’m really looking forward to it though, even if it means she won’t be getting paid. It’s been getting so cold at night and I’m happy to have her here to snuggle with. And now I’m going to spend some time with her.

what a day.

Well, this has turned out to be a very eventful day. Let me preface everything by saying that everyone is okay. (Don’t you hate it when people say that? But really, we are.)

We’ve got a big storm that moved in just in time for me to head home from work. The drive home wasn’t quite as bad as I expected, but it wasn’t good. When I got home, Firefly wanted to go back out to go to the hardware store to pick up the backer board for the bathroom floor. I reluctantly agreed after a bit of pouting, and once we loaded up the vehicle at the store we went through a drive through for dinner, because frankly neither one of us wanted to cook. We watched the hockey game on TV (we won), and Firefly headed off to work 45 minutes earlier than usual–which is probably good because it took her about 50 minutes to get there.

I worked on math homework for a while, then sat down to write my post for the day when my phone rang. It was Badger calling to tell me that Bean had wrecked Badger’s truck driving to work. She got cut off on the highway, and then the person who cut her off put on their brakes. She braked to try to avoid them and instead ended up sliding all the way across the highway and into the concrete median. Of course the person didn’t even stop. She’s shaken and sore, but otherwise alright. I had to go out to pick her up from the place they towed her and didn’t get above 35mph even on the highway, and even then I was sliding a bit. My window iced up from the freezing rain before I even made it off of our street, and it didn’t look like they plowed at all although I know they did. I kept seeing all these tire tracks off the side of the road, and saw a flare glowing in the snow. What would have normally taken me half an hour tops there and back ended up taking over an hour. But I’m home now and safe, and I dropped Bean and Badger off on their doorstep, also safe and sound. I’m sure Bean is taking a nice, long hot bath now.

I really hate weather like this. I get so worried about Firefly’s commute, especially since so much of it is outside of the city, and to the north, which tends to get a little harder hit. I just want it to be morning and her to be home. I’m not driving if it’s still this bad in the morning. I’ve got leave time, and it’s just not worth the stress.

nothing exciting.

Today was pretty boring overall–which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I worked, which was fine. Nothing too major, just the normal stuff and some phone calls. Oh, but a coworker of mine went to see the inauguration last week. She stayed with her sister, who lives there, and made a week of it. On Tuesday she and her husband went to see the live broadcast of Rachel Maddow, and the crew was passing out pins so she got one just to bring back for me! Of course, it being her first day back she forgot it at home, so she’ll be bringing it to me tomorrow.

After work I went down to the college to meet with the professor who is overseeing my capstone project. I’ve never had her for a class, but it went smoothly and she’s really laid back. I really just need to figure out what I’m going to do for my presentation at the end of the quarter, complete with Power.Point and other assorted things. I have no idea what to do. I’m on track with my other assignments, however, so that’s good.

I headed home–through icky traffic–and when I got here Firefly had already started dinner. I helped her finish up and we lounged on the couch and watched a couple of shows we had recorded, and then I crashed on her shoulder. I don’t even know what hit me, but I was zonked out. Maybe it was my bigger-than-normal glass of milk.

I’m trying to get my homework for math done by tomorrow night so that I can go to darts with Firefly on Wednesday. They’re due by that night at midnight, so if I don’t get them done I’ll have to skip out and stay home. I’d better get back to it!

what in the world?

Okay, I just found another stink bug in our house. That’s the second one this week. What are they doing? How are they getting in? I wouldn’t think they’d be coming in from outside, seeing as how it’s well below freezing. Are they just here already and wanting to come out and play? Gah! So annoying.

Anyway, we had the insem this morning and things went fine. It was our doc so that was nice. He let me push the plunger in again, which was very cool and I was much less shaky this time. We also had an even higher motile count than the last time, which¬† was way higher than the first donor–which I think I already said, but I’ll say again for the benefit of those who may have missed it. I’m feeling a lot more positive than I did last night, but I think that’s how this thing is going for me. One minute I’m sure of everything, and the next I’m nothing but doubt.

I went to a baby shower today, too, driving there in horrendous snow that made it impossible to see highway signs half a mile ahead and I never got above 45mph the entire drive. Not fun. I almost didn’t go, but I really wanted to be there. And I was at a baby shower. On the day we insem.inated. That should be a good omen, right? Right? Oh, who knows.

Of course, then I got home and Firefly and I were both very grumpy and at each other’s throats over every little teeny tiny ridiculous thing. We couldn’t even agree on what to make for dinner. We did manage to finally get our tree down, so at least there’s that.

oh, by the way…

I’ve made a few changes to the blog, most notably that I’ve added a contact page and updated the layout and header picture. You can now access the pages through the menu bar at the top rather than the sidebar. You can use the contact page to send me a message privately if you don’t want to comment directly on the page or have personal info that you don’t want to be visible to anyone but me. Thanks!
