hello there.

Monkey had his one-month check up this morning, and he’s doing very well. His measurements are all in the 50th percentile which is just fine. The doctor was impressed with his muscle development and social interaction, though, and he’s ahead in both of those areas. He said he wouldn’t be surprised at all if Monkey was walking by 9 months. So, we’ll just have to see, won’t we?

family.

We spent today celebrating the holiday with my family. Here is what I know.

Grandmas love grandsons…

And so do grandpas…

Nieces and nephews are fun…

Lions can be friendly…

And family is something pretty amazing.

i love home.

I went back to work yesterday. I’m only back part time until the beginning of February, and I’ll be gradually increasing my schedule as I go. Oh, my goodness it was so hard to leave home. I just wanted to crawl back into bed and cuddle with my wife and listen to our baby breathing.

I kept myself pretty busy even though very few people were around after being gone for a month and coming back during a processing week, which made it not so bad. Oh, and today my boss gave me some lovely picture frames for Christmas, which was very unexpected. Now I just need to figure out which cute pictures I’m going to print out and put in them! He also gave me a cheese and sausage box thing, which we will be sharing tomorrow evening with Bennder, GOB, and Bean when they come over.

We all headed home a little early today, and I was so happy to kiss my wife and snuggle with Monkey. I’m so glad I don’t have to leave tomorrow! Dee and Pia came over a little later with their son bearing gifts and dinner, and we had a nice evening hanging out with them.

Okay, some commercial just came on with a bunch of disposable containers and things pouring out of a cabinet, and Firefly is cracking up because that has sooooo happened to me.

Also, I am so behind on comments and other blogs it isn’t even funny. I’m trying to get caught up, but with everything going on it’s been a bit crazy around here. Bree, thanks for your comment on my post the other day, I really appreciate it–and Tori I’m going to email you, I promise!

oh dear.

Someone has been stuffy and gassy and tired and cranky.

And it’s not me.

a busy couple of days.

Our court appearance went very smoothly yesterday morning, even though we were running a little tighter than we wanted to getting there. We’re still figuring out how long it takes to get out of the house with Monkey. When we got to the courthouse the parking lot was full! Luckily we found a meter right next to the garage, so we pulled in and threw some quarters in, hoped it was enough time, and headed inside.

Once we got in and through all the checks and up to the right floor it was just about our appearance time, although we were in a block with a bunch of other cases so we were good. We checked in, met up with the lawyer, and then waited our turn. Once we were called it was very quick and easy. We went right up to the bench with the lawyer and she asked us each some questions, including asking Firefly if Monkey was in fact the cutest boy she’d ever seen, which of course she replied yes to–she was under oath, after all. We got a big congratulations from the judge, then went outside to wait for our official copies of paperwork. The lawyer told us that most of them actually really love cases like ours. Too often all they see are cases where families are coming apart, so it’s really nice for the judges to bring them together.

After we picked Monkey up we went to my work for a cookie exchange thing, and Monkey was much oohed and aahed over. We were a little worried about how the night would go because he slept most of the day, but everything went fine and I think he actually even went to sleep a bit earlier than he has been.

This morning we got up and went to the OB for Firefly’s four-week check-up, because it has been exactly four weeks since Monkey’s arrival, can you believe it? She said everything looks great, and Firefly has been cleared to resume normal activities, although she’s supposed to take things a bit slow.

We came home and worked on some things around the house, and I finished up some cookies and cut up the lemon bars we made. We also had some friends come over to meet Monkey. Then just closed on a new house not too long ago so they hadn’t been able to make it over until today. It was great to see them, and they had fun I think–although Monkey has been a bit fussy this evening.

After they left we had some dinner and then got started with gathering things for the trip to her parents’ house this weekend. I set out the clothes I was planning to wear tomorrow and then got started on some other things when Firefly came up to me and asked about them. She wanted to know if I had seen what she had picked out for tomorrow. Apparently we picked the exact same shirt, except that mine was red and hers orange. So now I need to figure out what I’m going to wear instead because we can’t have that. I also need to finish putting some laundry away, get everything into a bag to go, and try to get the boy to go to sleep. We’ll see how it goes!

an oops.

Today was pretty busy! Firefly went out to run an errand this morning and to put our cards in the mail, with the exception of a few I had to get addressed. When she came home we started making cookies–a replacement of the bad batch from Sunday that we didn’t get to yesterday. And then the lawyer called us. I had left a message yesterday because we hadn’t heard anything from her yet about our court appearance to finalize everything for the co-parenting stuff, and it’s a good thing I did because it’s tomorrow morning! Apparently her assistant sent the paperwork to the wrong address, one that Firefly hasn’t lived at since right after we started dating. So after calling my dad to see if he could watch Monkey tomorrow and finding that he was out of town at my brother’s house Firefly and I frantically tried to figure out who could possibly watch him on short notice on a weekday morning. We called my ex and now friend, who is married with a baby of her own and doesn’t work during the day (her husband works days and she works part-time in the evenings), and she, being the lovely person that she is, agreed right away. So that was a relief.

After that was settled we finished up the batch of cookies we were making and I hurried off to meet my mom. We went to get our piggy protection shots and then went to a basketball game together. My parents have front row center season tickets to a local university’s women’s team. It was lots of fun, and I enjoyed spending time with her. I’ve missed having lunch with her every day at work while I’ve been off, and I think she’s missed it too, so it was good to have some time just the two of us.

While we were off doing that, Bean came over and spent the evening hanging out with Firefly and Monkey. I don’t know what they did, but I think they had a pretty good time! 😀

Tomorrow’s going to be even busier!
