hello! miss me?

We’ve had a busy few days! Firefly had darts on Wednesday, so Monkey and I had the house all to ourselves. We had an impromptu photo shoot, so stay tuned for a few pictures–perhaps tomorrow.

Dee and Pia are getting married in October, and we’re in the wedding parties–she’s in Dee’s and I’m in Pia’s. Friday was a big dress sale thing, so Firefly went with Pia in search of a dress. She came home around 3, and off I went to meet up with Pia to search for hers. They both ended up finding beautiful dresses.

I got back home from the shopping excursion just as my parents were arriving. They spent the evening with Monkey while we went over to Dee and Pia’s house with more of the wedding parties and talk about some of the other details. And I had some sangria. We got back home pretty late. My parents didn’t mind, but they were glad to head home to their bed.

We spent some time getting things done around the house today, and then this evening Bennder and GOB came over. We went out for dinner and then came back to the house for dessert, games, and playing with Monkey. It was a good day!

an update.

Monkey had his two-month check up today, and everything is looking great. He’s up to 11lbs 3oz–which is still in the 50th percentile, and the pediatrician says he’s exactly where they want him to be over that time period–and is 23 1/4 inches long, which bumps him from the 50th percentile up to the 75th. He’s still way ahead on social and motor development. I’ve got mixed feelings about it. I think it’s pretty amazing, and it thrills me to see, but at the same time I don’t want to lose my wee baby. I know, we’ve got a little while yet, but…

Oh, and those vaccines? Oh my goodness. He’s such a trooper and calmed down quickly, but it breaks your heart.

rolling shoes.

Yesterday Firefly and I took Monkey to our friends’ house for a playdate with them and their daughter. Okay, really it was more of an adults playdate, and we passed Monkey around and watched their 20-month-old climb on everything in sight while we were at it. Either way, though, it was a good time. We ended up staying for quite a while, but we still managed to get in some tummy time when we got home.

And then…

Monkey rolled himself over. And not like the accidental, “what was that?” kind of rolling over he did before. Oh, no. This seemed quite intentional. I rolled him back to his tummy, and over he went again. And again. And again. This is craziness. He’s just barely two months (actually he has his two month checkup tomorrow). I’m even more convinced that he meant to do it, because he repeated the endeavor tonight.

I’ll blame it on the shoes.

Or maybe there just isn’t anything to blame it on.

Then tonight Firefly and I were sitting on the couch together. She had Monkey on her lap, sitting propped up against her legs. He was fascinated by her white shirt with black lettering that he kept trying to grab. I wasn’t really paying attention at one point, and then I see him leeeeeeeeeaning over toward me…so I look over, and he’s got the biggest grin just lighting up his whole face, looking right at me. And then he did his little giggle squeal. Oh! My poor heart!

oh, hey

I keep meaning to post this but haven’t yet (mostly because I’m terrible and keep forgetting every time I’m actually online), but I just wanted to take a minute to send a big congratulations to Bree and M over at projectkjetil on the birth of their beautiful baby boy. Much love to you all!

yum yum.

Hello, my name is Monkey, and I like to put things in my mouth. Like burp cloths, my mommies’ fingers, and my fist. As soon as I can hold onto those toys I’ll be putting them in, too.

But just so you know, I’m not such a big fan of this tummy time thing.

Babies have very sharp fingernails. They are so tiny and they grow so fast. It’s hard to keep up with them, and you pretty much have to wait until they’re asleep to get them. Even then it’s a traumatic experience, trying to cut those tiny nails without doing damage to those little fingers, and hoping the wee one doesn’t wake or give a little jerk.

And if you go just a little bit too long, you may end up with a scratch on your neck, or get up one morning to find your baby looking like this:

And then you might want to cry.

hey, i forgot!

I meant to post this a while ago, but with the excitement of the holidays and everything being so busy in general with a new baby and all I never did…

Monkey got a package in the post! We found it stuffed in our mailbox on Christmas eve, with a postmark from the Royal Mail. How cool is that? His auntie Loz and her girlfriend sent him a package all the way from London! We opened it up and found these:

One of them had a super cute jacket and shoes that are a bit too big for him yet, but the other one had these cuties–which she said were the most British gift she could find:

Aren’t they awesome? I remember reading these books with my mom when I was little, and I can’t wait to read them with him–and to have these little cuties to go along with them. They have plastic eyes so he won’t be able to play with them for a while yet, but they look so good on his bookshelf. I love them!
